Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle!

Well, what a whirlwind holiday! My mom and step-dad were visiting from Prince Edward Island, and we had plans with one branch of the family tree from the 23rd until yesterday. But it was great - I love the holidays for that.

And now, though we can barely believe it, 2011 is rolling to an end, and we have hopes and dreams for 2012. I read something in a magazine the other day that really resonated with me; rather than making a New Year's resolution (that you're bound to break!), try and think about the things you are currently doing that you don't want to change, and make an effort through the coming year to keep those things as they are.

I've got a really long list so far of all the things I want to stay the same, but I'll come back on January 1st and let you know what they are ;)

In the meantime, to help ring in the new year, Friday Mashup challenge this week is one that will get you thinking about bubbly and the stroke of midnight!
  1. Make a project that "Sparkles".
  2. Or Make a project "Celebrating the New Year".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project "Celebrating the New Year that Sparkles" .
I adore sparkles, so I was thrilled to pack as many into this card as possible ;)  I'm not sure that you can make out all the sparkle from the picture, but that firework is exploding with it! haha. My craft room was a mess!

As an added bonus, this card features a little sneak peek into one of the stamp sets from Sale-a-bration, which is starting soon!

 Celebrate

For this card, I wanted to keep it simple and sparkly!
1. Let the sparkle shine!: Fireworks aren't fireworks without sparkles! After I glued all those dots down (and yes, it took some time), I ran over them with a 2-way gluepen and then just covered the card with glitter. Since there was so much glitter, I thought it would be a good idea to contain some of it. I used a clear window sheet and some mini brands to make a window for the firework.

2. One layer!: To keep this card simple, I stamped the quite 'fancy' sentiment directly onto the card base. I resisted the urge to colour it in, and (barely) resisted the urge to add glitter to that too ;) I wanted the focal point to be the firework.

The supplies I used for this card were:

Cardstock: Pear Pizzaz, Peach Parfait, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Stamps: ...You'll see soon enough ;)
Ink: Basic Gray
Embellishments: Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Silver mini brads, window sheets
Tools: Dotted Scallop Border punch, 2-way Gluepen
Hope you enjoyed your visit, and we'll see you soon :)
Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

Merry Christmas!

Well, this is it... the last 'workday' before Christmas. I gotta say, up until last night, it wasn't feeling 'Christmas-y'. Then my mom arrived from across the country, and BAM, the magic began :D

Today at the Friday Mashup, the design team has this wicked sketch challenge for you. And if you dare, you can mash it up and use the sketch with some watercolouring.

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project using the "Sketch".
  2. Or Make a project using "Watercoloring".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project using the "Sketch & Watercoloring" .

Hello

I have to admit, I'm not the best at watercolour. I did try, but I'm not sure that I even did enough to claim that I watercoloured ;) Around the tree, bird and clouds there is a tiny bit of colouring, that may be hard to see. I also flipped the sketch on it's side!

I hope everyone has a very safe and happy holiday! And hopefully we'll see you back before next Friday! I can't believe I didn't update all week.

My mom, sister-in-law and I are planning a card afternoon, where we just get together and make some things, so I'll be back before too long with all the excitement of that :)

Until next time - Happy stamping! :)

Chip off the old block!

As I write this, I’m running a fever and have so much pressure behind my eyes and ears that I feel like that frog from Shrek – you know, the one that Shrek blows into and makes a balloon for Fiona?

Anyways, this is going to be a super short one today, but I just had to come and share this fun Friday Mashup with you:
  1. Make a project featuring "Chipboard (Precut or Diecut )".
  2. Or Make a project with "Distressing ( ink, scissors or the Cutter Tool Kit)".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Distressed Project featuring Chipboard"

Since I love distressing oh so much, I was thrilled about this one!

Sympathy

I realize you can barely see the stamp/sentiment, but that was partially intentionally – It’s a sympathy card and I wanted it to be subtle. The other reason is that I didn’t realize it was going to come out that light ;)

Going back to bed now – enjoy the Friday Mashup challenge, everyone!

Until next time – happy stamping :)

My Crafty World pick

How fun! Tiffany Bauer over at My Crafty World has selected one of my cards for her "My Crafty Picks" collections! Thank you, Tiffany :)

Why don't you head on over there to check out some of the other fantastic projects she picked? It's OK, I'll wait here! While you're there, don't forget to take a long look at her projects too {pssst... Check out the "Jingle All the Way" shadow box. Isn't that awesome?}.

This is the card that was selected.

Thanks for stopping by this morning.

Until next time, happy stamping :)

Baby, it's cold outside!

Hello!

It's Friday Mashup day! :) How happy does that make you?! It makes me pretty happy. This week, the Friday Mashup challenge was to:
  1. Make a project featuring "Snowmen".
  2. Or Make a project using the colors "Blushing Bride, Baja Breeze & Basic Grey".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Snowman project with the colors Blushing Bride, Baja Breeze & Basic Grey".
Believe it or not, I don't actually own any snowman stamps! I had borrowed "Punch Pals" from a friend of mine, but I just returned it to her last weekend. I do, however, have the oh-so-pretty Winter Post set, and it seemed to fit perfectly with the colour this week. I just love those skaters.

Christmas Postcard
 (FM36)

For this card, I wanted to add a little extra!
1. Get out your glitter!: I didn't want to overdo this card. I wanted to keep it pretty clean looking, and simple. I did, however, want to add a little extra, so I frosted off the hat and cuffs of lil' miss with some Dazzling Diamonds.

2. Stamp off!:Add a faint background image to your cards with the 'stamping off' technique. The snowflake in the background of my card were inked up in Baja Breeze, and then stamped on a scrap piece of paper (twice!) and then stamped onto my card. It gives you a faint background, and the colours still coordinate perfectly!

The supplies I used for this card were:

Cardstock: Basic Gray, Baja Breeze, Blushing Bride, Whisper White
Stamps: Winter Post
Ink: Basic Black, Baja Breeze, Blushing Bride
Embellishments: Dazzling Diamonds Glitter
Thanks for stopping by today!

Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

A new challenge!

Hello!

Today's card is brought to you by the number 14, and the letters F, M and S... And by that I mean, I participated in the Freshly Made Sketch challenge #14 today. I've been seeing the sketches around all over the place these days, and keep thinking how absolutely lovely they are. Figured it was time to jump on the bandwagon ;)

"Clean". It's almost impossible to stay that way when you have a 3 year old and a 3 month old... So if my house, clothes and children can't be clean, at least my cards can be. And Freshly Made Sketches is all about clean. How refreshing!

As soon as I saw this sketch, I instantly thought of a present all wrapped up... So, I dressed up this card to look like a present. This isn't one of those cards you pop in the mail though, so I made this one to give to my dad at Christmas when I see him. We don't exchange gifts, so when he opens this "present" card, he'll see a little picture of his grandsons (well, the grandsons that I grew, at least!)

Merry

(FMS14)

For this card, I wanted to keep it clean!
1. Resist the urge to distress!: Let me be frank here; I have a not-so-secret love affair with sponging. I do it all the time. Almost too much (is there such thing?!). But don't be afraid of the clean lines! Nice, 'clean' edges can keep your card looking fresh and crisp. Back away from the sponges!

2. Embellish with "big"!: "Clean" doesn't have to mean embellishment-free! have at it, go crazy :) The reason for the big bow was threefold! 1) I was sticking with the philosophy "go big, or go home"; 2) When it comes to presents, the bigger the bow, the more likely it'll get opened first! hehe; and 3) With less surface area, I was less likely to cave to the gentle whispers of the sponge (see above).

The supplies I used for this card were:

Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist
Paper: Frostwood Lodge DSP
Stamps: Tiny Tags
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Embellishments: White Satin ribbon
Tools: Jewelry tag punch.

Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

Family Portrait

Happy Wednesday, everybody!

Let me start this post by saying that we're not 'picture people' in this house. Ok, maybe it's just me that's not a picture person, but I digress. This year for Christmas, instead of having a family photo done (which we will eventually do, I'm sure), I used the All in the Family stamp set and stamped out a little Bourgoin family portrait :)

In making this card, I quickly realized that the Marvelous Markers set would have been a fantastic addition to my craft room. Yes, I stamped each person a couple times on various papers/cardstocks and cut them all out. No colouring for me! It was a tad labour intensive, but I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. This set sure makes me smile.

The awesome colours came courtesy of the ColourQ challenge this week: I modified only slightly to replace Cool Caribbean with Tempting Turquoise.

 Merry Christmas from our family
 (CQC114)

For this card, I wanted to keep it fun!
1. Don't take yourself too seriously!: It's almost impossible to keep a card "serious" when using the All in the Family set! It's so jovial and light-hearted! Every now and then, you have to make a card that just makes you smile with its silliness. Even though I don't necessarily think this card is silly, it's not your typical Christmas card, that's for sure!

2. Try paper-piecing!: Yes, it can be time consuming - but the results are certainly worth it! Granted, with the attention to detail that Stampin' Up! has already done, and the fact that they have markers in all the ink colours, you may wonder why you would ever want to paper-piece. Sometimes, it's worth it! It gives your card some added dimension, and the colours are solid. OR, try piecing with some patterned paper - look at "my" dress - that's a piece of Tempting Turquoise designer series paper! And what about those lights, you ask? Those are leftovers from the Triple Layer Doily punch! Save your scraps, you never know when they'll come in handy :)

The supplies I used for this card were:

Cardstock: Certainly Celery, Poppy Parade, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Temping Turquoise DSP
Stamps: All in the Family, Petite Pairs
Ink: Basic Black
Embellishments: Rhinestones
Tools: Paper Snips (big time!!), 2-way Gluepen
Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

Shake it up!!

I have some very exciting news to share this morning! I have the honour and privilege of being a guest designer for the month of December over at The Friday Mashup!

I've enjoyed participating in their challenges so much, and because of their challenges have tried my hand at so many news techniques - This week is certainly one of them, where we were challenged to make a shaker card! Something that I have been meaning to do for quite some time but never had the nerve to try.
  1. Make a project featuring "A Shaker Card".
  2. Or Make a project with a "Winter Theme".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a " Winter Themed Shaker Card. "

Well, here it is, folks! And let me tell you, it was so much fun. If you've been meaning to try a shaker card, I urge you to take the plunge :)

Let it Snow

For this card, I wanted to jump way outside my comfort zone!
1. Don't be afraid to try something new!: When it comes down to it, everything was new once - walking, talking, counting, eating broccoli!... but we take on the challenge without a second thought. Take this approach when you're making your next card. You'd be surprised at what you can accomplish and you'll have a renewed faith in your own creativity!

2. Embrace your mistakes!: Ok, I admit it, I made a mistake. And given the type of mistake it was, correcting it would mean redoing a large portion of the card! Did you notice that the sentiment isn't completely centred? Well, I noticed, and I let it go! Turns out, it worked out great - it gives the 'snow' inside the shaker portion a spot to build up, giving it the feel of rolling hills (or a snowdrift!) :) Embrace your mistakes - It gives you a chance to learn.

The supplies I used for this card were:
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White
Paper: Frostwood Lodge DSP, Garden Green DSP
Stamps: Punch Pals
Ink: Garden Green, More Mustard, Basic Black, Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler
Embellishments: Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding ribbon, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Rhinestones
Tools: Large Oval punch, Scallop oval punch, Dotted Scallop Border punch,

Until next time - Happy Stamping :)
